On Friday 11 November, in Genoa, at the "Badia Benedettina della Castagna", the
International Workshop on Alternating Hemiplegia
was held, organized by A.I.S.EA Onlus in collaboration with the Scientific Institute G. Gaslini.
The Workshop aimed to disseminate the knowledge on Alternating Hemiplegia through the analysis of the clinical, therapeutic,
and instrumental aspects and the evaluation of the pathogenetic hypotheses, in order to promote further research on the disease.
The program of the Workshop also included the presentation of the latest scientific studies promoted and funded by A.I.S.EA.
The project
I.B.AHC – Biobank and Clinical Registry for Alternating Hemiplegia, was also presented,
funded and coordinated by A.I.S.EA in collaboration with its Scientific Committee.
Many patients, researchers, representatives of public institutions, physicians
and social and health operators participated, from Italy and Europe.
A professional service of simultaneous translation (Italian-English)was available.
During the Workshop, A.I.S.EA organized the annual
Video-session I.B.AHC for the
validation of the new diagnoses of AHC: a new suspected case of AHC was presented by the treating physician and the diagnosis was confirmed
by the members of the Scientific Committee of A.I.S.EA and by all the participating physicians.
The next morning, Saturday November 12, at the Department of Child Neurology (NPI) of the Institute G. Gaslini in Genoa,
the
Meeting of the European patients and patient representatives was held,
for the definition of a common plan for the support to the research on AHC in Europe.
The Workshop was really successful, with important news about both the research and the care of the patients.
